Announcements / Server Restore

We had a power outage about an hour ago, and upon bringing the server back online the main world was corrupted.  I am currently in the process of restoring from the 4:00 am daily backup (first time testing that), so work done since 4:00 am today will unfortunately be lost.  The restore may take a few hours as it is over half a million files.

I'm going to be out of town from 10/6 to 10/13.  Hopefully we do not have any server issues at that time.  If we do we it may be a bit before I get it addressed.  I will try to check in from time to time though.

It appears the server is currently down.  I am at work still, so it will remain down until I get home, which will not be for another 4-5 hours.

Does anyone know when it went down?  Was someone on when it did go offline?  If so what were you doing when you got disconnected?

Bugs / Issues / Teleport pipes having issues

We have been having a few issues with teleport pipes recently.  A couple weeks ago a pipe placed by Killmeded corrupted a chunk for some reason.  Every time the server loaded this chunk it crashed the server.  Fortunately the chunk it question was not loaded by an anchor, so I was able to login and roll back his recent changes to correct the issue.  We are not going to always be that lucky, and may at times have to restore from a backup.

Recently the teleport pipes stopped working in our new world.  In the reading that I have done the pipes at times do not work on multiworld setups.  They will work on some worlds an not others. Seems they will work on each of the worlds individually if that world is the only world the server manages, but with multiple worlds they will randomly not work on some of them.

Previously they were working on the new world, even though we had the old world loaded as well.  I just recently added another world to the server, which is probably what triggered the pipes to stop working on the new world, although they still work on the new world's nether.  I was going to be adding another 2 worlds this weekend, which may fix break the pipes on these different worlds again.

I have yet to find the triggers that cause them to work in one world and not on another, and I may not be able to find one.  The reason is many of the Tekkit servers out there disable the teleport pipes, due to the risk of corrupting chunks.  They are generally considered more trouble than they are worth.  After the event with Killmeded stated above, I did consider disabling them as well.  I would prefer not to as the pipes are very useful.

I'm going to look into it a little further to see if there is a way around the issue of chunk corruption and multiworld support, but if I cannot find solutions, we may need to disable them.

Plug-Ins / Multiverse vs Transporter

Up to this point we have been using Transporter for managing multiple worlds and the portals between them.  I am planning to replace transporter with Multiverse today.  I have been running it on the test server for a little while, and it seems to be working well.

Some benefits this will offer us is we now can have a separate nether and end in each world, and under transporter only the main world had a nether.  This means that the old nether in the old world will be accessible again through the existing nether portals.  Another feature this has is the ability to use custom world generators.  This is important as I wanted to create a world out in space that would allow for inter-world travel.  It also allows us to use generators like Skylands.

When I turn this on I will temporarily link up the previous inter-world portals until I can get the permanent solution setup.  I have already build a shuttle port in the new world, and will create something similar in the old.

I am also in the process of generating a new world on a second server that I am going to fill with dungeons, and set on hard mode.  I prefer to do that rather than try to add more to the existing world.

Announcements / Server is down

As most of you have already noticed the server is currently down.  It went down last night due to a crash.  I cannot currently get it back up as it continues to crash with the same error.  The error is related to a water strainer someone placed in world.  It is caught it a recursive error which eventually results in a stack overflow and prevents play.  There is most likely an anchor around this strainer as it loads on server start without anyone logging in.

This issue has been reported elsewhere.  Some say it is random, and othewr have stated it happens when you attach a gold pipe to the strainer.  If anyone placed a strainer last night, or modified the piping for a strainer, please post the general location of it here, as I need to pull up the world in an editor and fix it manually.  Until this occurs the server will remain down.

There does not appear to be any fix for this issue other then turning the strainer off, so if we do not turn them off, then it will probably happen again.

Plug-Ins / Equivalent Exchange

Equivalent Exchange

As most of you are aware we enabled Equivalent Exchange on the server after it had been disabled for the first couple of weeks.  It was initially disabled as there were several exploits with certain items, and some items I viewed as not balanced with the the other mods on the server.

It is now on, but I have disabled certain items within the mod.  I also patched the mod so the items would not bypass the block logger that would prevent us from rolling back changes.  This list may change over time, and I will try to keep it up to date.

Disabled Items

Energy Collectors
Nova Catalyst
Destruction Catalyst
Void Ring

The one I know some may have an issue with not being there are the enery collectors.  I beleive them being included in the game would cause balancing issues, and would make it so most items someone would need would be produced via EMC recevied from large collector arrays.  It was just a method to receive passive items that's too easy to setup.

As for the two Catalysts, they have been disabled as I beleive they are too overpowered for the recipes used to create them.  There are other items in EE that also allow for very strong methods of clearing blocks, but they require more effort to craft, and in turn I left them in.

The void ring was disabled due to a duplication bug.

Plug-Ins / Plug-in Info - Lift

Lift

Lift is a plug-in that allows you to create elevators.  There are no commands to learn to create one.  You just need to setup the blocks in a particular manner.  To do this you will need an iron block, and a sign/button/glass for each floor.

Bugs / Issues / Nether portals not working in the old world

The nether portals only seem to work in the new world.  I will see if I a figure out a way to correct this, but if not, I will just replace the existing nether portals with transporter gates.

Bugs / Issues / LWC - Lockable devices

Last night we added the custom chests from the Iron Chests mod to the list of lockable devices.  We still do not have any of the other modded devices within that list (i.e. IC machines).  I will try to get those added shortly.

Announcements / Server port change tonight (8/23/2012)

Seeing the old server has been shut down, we will be moving the server back to the default port of 25565.  This means you should remove the port information from the hostname in order to connect.  This change will occur sometime on the evening of 8/23/2012.

Announcements / Old World Migrated to New Server

The old world was successfully migrated to the new server last night, and the old server has been shutdown.  There is currently a single gate at the spawn of the new world that links the two worlds.  The nether gates in the old world are still not working, but I will replace those with transporter gates shortly.

Please let me know if you notice any issues with the old world.

General / Old World Options (Poll)

On the new server we are currently running off of a copy of the old world as it was on 8/1/2012, as the new server is just version 1.2.5.  Seeing the old server is running 1.3.1, we cannot use the map on the new server without having some issues.  Because of this we stated that we would just have a copy of the old world on the new server for testing purposes, and when the Tekkit server and client were updated to 1.3.x then we would copy the old world over at that time.  The reason for doing this is so no one would lose the 1 to 2 weeks world of work done to the old world.

While the old server is still up and running, everyone seems to be using the new server, so the world on that server has been mostly static since the new server came up.  So we are still only talking about a week or two worth of work on the old server that did not make it to the new server.

So the question is do we wait for 1.3.x support in Tekkit to come out and then migrate the old world to the new server, understanding that this could be a couple of months out still, or do we just go with the version of the old world currently on the new server now, and just accept the loss of whatever work was done in that first week or two of August?

I am posing this question as it could still be a bit of time before Tekkit will be updated to 1.3.x, and I do not want to continue to keep the old world on hold if no one has issues with going with the 8/1/2012 version.  I personally do not mind losing my changes during that time, but I know others may feel differently.  I am also fine with waiting as we initially planned, as currently Iím keeping busy in the new world.

Plug-Ins / About this board

This board is to discuss anything related to Minecraft modifications.  This includes general modifications that are installed on the client and server (BC, IC, EE, etc) as well as server side plug-ins.

The client/server modifications have generally all come with the Tekkit mod pack, and is not something we make many changes to, other than disabling things.  Most of our customization comes on the server side with the Bukkit plug-ins.  I will try to keep an updated list of the running mods and plug-ins on the server in this post.

Feel free to post and questions about the plug-ins we are currently using, as well as any requests for us to use additional plugins.
